Which game awards should you look at?
The Game Awards
The biggest game awards show, held every December in Los Angeles. A jury of more than 100 media outlets votes, and most categories combine 90% jury score with 10% fan vote.
Useful when you want games the industry rates highly.
The Steam Awards
Voted by Steam users. Nominations happen during the Autumn Sale and final voting during the Winter Sale, so winners tend to be the games people actually played and loved that year.
Useful when you want a game to sink lots of hours into.
These won Game of the Year at both shows in the same year. Start here if you want something both critics and players loved.
Years are when each show took place. Award winners keep selling for years and often return in big sales, so if one isn't discounted now, add it to your wishlist and get a price alert.
